Knife for cutting palm fruit, forged from Kissi pennies Collected 1930–31
A hooked knife for cutting down bunches of palm fruit, forged from Kissi pennies: the long, thin twisted iron rods once used as money in the Kissi country and around it. The money was iron, so a smith could turn it into a tool. Collected by the Swedish ethnographer Gustaf Bolinder on his 1930–31 journey through Sierra Leone.
